Flying Foxes arrive in Lagos!
Dozens of flying foxes arrive at Lagos Zoo

Lagos Zoo has welcomed a new species to the facility near Lagos, 20 Lyle’s Flying Foxes (Pteropus Lylei).
The flying foxes, of which there are 10 males and 10 female, are the first of their kind to be housed in Portugal and were brought to the zoo from the Bioparque Doué de Fontaine in France.
Classed as megabats, visitors to the zoo will be able to interact with the flying foxes in the ‘walking through Asia’ part of the zoo. A spokesman for Lagos Zoo said: “These bats only feed on nectar and fruit and this year we are celebrating the Year of the Bat and want to demystify the ideas surrounding bats while educating visitors about this species.”

Sir Cliff helps to raise funds for Algarve charities

More than 300 guests attended the event including Denise Welch of Loose Women fame, former footballing star Willie Morgan, drummer Brian Bennett and former goalkeeper Andy Dibble.
Local dance troop Presumed Innocent began the show followed by a performance by children from a local children’s home, who had put together their own dance routine for the occasion.
After the dancing, it was the turn of singer Lorraine Robinson to take to the stage followed by classical tenor John Christos and soprano Jenny Williams who finished their set with their version of Nessun Dorma.
Organiser Gaynor Morgan said: “The duos version of Nessun Dorma brought many of the guests to tears and ended up with a standing ovation from Sir Cliff Richard.”
Before Sir Cliff Richard began his own set, Denise Welch, who had flown in to support him, got up onto the stage to auction a Loose Women package to help raise extra money for the charities. Sir Cliff Richard then joined her on stage to auction the shirt off his own back to boost the coffers further.
Finally, it was the turn of Sir Cliff Richard to pick up his guitar and treat the audience to an acoustic set which lasted for more than an hour.
The event managed to raise more than €20,000 for two Algarve charities, ACCA Kids, the local charity that helps under privileged children in the region, and Madrugada, an association which helps people with life limiting illness of which Sir cliff Richard is a patron.
